It's Cruel, It's Mysterious,
It's My Destiny
Episode Two begins with Orochi chasing Momiji her through the school
and destroying it in the process. Orochi tells Momiji that he is going
to kill her, to free himself and the Aragami from the chains that have
enslaved them for thousands of years, but Momiji is saved by Kusanagi, the
young man from the woods, who rescues her but with the purpose of killing her
himself. However, he proves unable to do so, when Orochi gives him the
chance, seeing Kaede's face when he looks at Momiji.
Having given Kusanagi the chance to prove his intentions,
Orochi then incapacitates Kusanagi and takes the Kushinada back, placing her
in a ceramic field to kill her. He explains to Momiji that the ceramic
field protects the Aragami from her blood and as long as she dies in the
ceramic field, the Aragami will be unaffected.
Orochi is about to kill her whent the TAC arrive and start
attacking him from outside the school, using a weapon that begins to kill off
the body of the plant host he has taken over. Orochi is distracted long
enough for Kusanagi to break free of his bonds and rescue Momiji, but Orochi
eventually turns his attention back to Kusanagi and Momiji. Angry at
Kusanagi's betrayal, he vows to punish him, intent on killing him, but Momiji
steps in the way and his mitama pierces her through the heart. It is
unexpected, and Orochi knows that he cannot let her die, so he uses his mitama
to seal the wound and ensure the Aragami's continued existence.
The end of the episode finds Momiji being given a blood
transfusion, her mother on the table next her, in tears. Momiji opens
her eyes and tells her mother that it's all right; that she doesn't understand
everything, but she knows that it is her destiny to be the Kushinada.
Kusanagi is outside, near the tent, waiting to see if she is going to be all
right, and after she finishes speaking, he repeats the word
"Destiny" and walks away.
Thus begins Momiji's fight against the Aragami as the
Kushinada.
