Innocence! Love!
My First Kiss?!
Episode ten starts in the subway where a
giant toad is wreaking havoc, running the train off the tracks and basically
frying everyone turning them into little tiny piles of ash. The TAC
(Kome and Ryoko) are in the tunnels trying to stop it, and the rest of the
members are keeping tabs on the situation from above ground and Momiji joins
them. She is willing to go below to help them track the Aragami, but
Kunikida tells her it is too dangerous, that she'll have to track it from the
street. She agrees, but senses Murakumo's presence and takes off
running, trying to find him.
He is standing on the roof of a temple, and when Momiji
arrives, he tells her she is standing in a bad place. She doesn't
understand, until the toad begins to resurface in the place that Momiji is
standing and she is buried in the rubble. The sun goes down, and no one
knows where Momiji is when Kusanagi arrives looking for her.
Kusanagi goes looking for Momiji, tracking her energy to
the temple. He breaks up the rubble and goes in after her, bringing her
to the surface. He tries to wake her up and then realizes she's not
breathing and begins to administer mouth to mouth respiration.
In the meantime, the TAC are battling the giant toad as is
Murakumo who stalks it in the subway and then out on the city streets, chasing
it back to where Momiji and Kusanagi are. It takes a giant leap and is
about to squash them flat when, of course, Kusanagi picks Momiji up and
carries her to safety.
Once they are safe, Kusanagi stares out into the darkness
trying to figure out what Murakumo is up to. Momiji is standing
awkwardly behind him, trying to thank him for saving her life, but doesn't
seem to be doing a very good job at it. Kusanagi finally concentrates
his attention on her, and thoroughly irritates her by asking her if she's
ready to go out on another date with him. That makes her angry, so they
start arguing and she finds out that he gave her mouth to mouth.
Momiji's reaction is to get embarrassed and then start crying, which
completely baffles Kusanagi.
The next day, Kusanagi confronts Murakumo, and they battle,
while Momiji wrestles with trying to decide if mouth to mouth could be
considered a kiss... (I do believe that she is the only girl in history who
could EVER consider mouth to mouth a kiss...) She goes out with Kome and
starts thinking about Kusanagi, seeing his face in the jeep mirror and as it
cracks.
Momiji knows that something is wrong and she goes after
Kusanagi arriving at the battleground just in time to keep Murakumo from
killing him. Murakumo offers one last taunt at Kusanagi before he leaves
them with the giant toad that has also appeared, telling them that they can
kill it.
The toad belches fire at them, surrounding them with a wall
of flames, and Kusanagi is in no condition to get them out. He tells
Momiji to leave him, but of course, she refuses, wrapping her arms around
him. Suddenly her mitama starts to glow and they rise in the air.
Momiji is stunned but Kusanagi doesn't seem all that surprised, telling her
that between the two of them, they have the eight mitamas needed to take
flight. Together they destroy the toad and then together, they pass
out... (Isn't togetherness wonderful? ^_^)
When Momiji awakens, Kusanagi is lying silently beside her
and she can't wake him up. Shegets panicked, afraid that Kusanagi is
dying and considers giving him mouth to mouth - after all, didn't he do the
same for her? She closes in, getting ready to the deed when she notices
that Kusanagi is far from needing mouth to mouth, although he DOES seem rather
interested in letting Momiji try.
She doesn't try though, getting angry instead and throwing
his body to the ground. Then she starts crying, telling him that she was
really worried. Kusanagi takes a moment to give her a sincere thanks,
which makes him VERY uncomfortable (Mr. Sentimental!) and then he gets up and
leaves as the TAC arrives on the scene, telling her that he is not very good
at "dealing with this kind of thing". He walks away, but
pauses, his back still to her and asks Momiji to promise him that she will be
careful. He can sense that something terrible is about to awaken.
And then he walks away, leaving her to watch his solitary retreat.
